  9. Developed by Advanced Software Concepts, asc3270 is a Terminal Tool designed to
  10. offer 3270 terminal emulation using the standard access interfaces of Apple's
  11. Communication Toolbox. Currently, asc3270 supports telnet connections over
  12. TCP/IP using our TCP/IP connection tool called TCPack, as well as SNA
  13. connections using our, soon to be released, SNA•ck connection tool based on
  14. Apple's SNA•ps product.

  16. asc3270 is System 7.0 compliant and supports balloon help.

  19. This Demo is being made available on this forum ONLY for evaluation purpose.

  21. Enclosed is a demo version of asc3270. This version is fully functional, but
  22. the connection time is limited to 8 minutes for each session. Also, an
  23. Installer application is delivered with the commercial version which allows an
  24. End-User or a System Administrator to setup the default connection parameters.

  40. • Any Macintosh with at least 128K Roms (Macintosh Plus and newers).

  42. • Macintosh System Software 6.0.4 or later.

  44. • The Macintosh Communications Toolbox v. 1.0 or later.

  46. • A Communication Toolbox compliant application like 5PM (our own powerful
  47.   terminal emulation application), Claris Works, MacTerminal or Sample (delivered 
  48.   with the Communications Toolbox Basic Connectivity Set) or a HyperCard XCMD set 
  49.   like our ascHyperCTB product.

  52.   Communications Toolbox, required by asc3270.

  58. Installation Procedure :
  59. ---------------------

  61. 1) Make sure the CTB is correctly installed.
  62.  
  63. 2) Load the "asc3270 Fonts" into your system file by using Font DaMover, or by
  64.    dragging them on your System file icon under System 7.0.
  65.    Make sure to trash any older versions of the asc3270 Fonts you may have in
  66.    your System file.

  68. 3) Make sure to trash any older version of the asc3270Prefs file you may have
  69.    in your system folder.

  71. 4) Drag the asc3270 tool into your "Communications Folder" located in the
  72.    System Folder if you are running System 6.0x or in your "Extensions" folder
  73.    if you are running System 7.0.
  74.  
  75. 5) Run your CTB compliant application, select and setup TCPack or SNA•ck for
  76.    the connection and asc3270 as terminal emulation.
  77.    Open the session; if you have correctly setup your parameters and… if you
  78.    have an IBM mainframe supporting tcp/ip telnet or SNA sessions, everything
  79.    should work fine.

  81. 6) Use the On-line help if you have any problems.

  84. Configuration Procedure :

  87. 1) Select TCPack as Connection Tool. Choose an IBM-3278-x, IBM-3279-x Terminal Type 
  88.    in the Terminal Configuration Dialog.
  89.  
  90. 2) Select asc3270 as Terminal Tool. Usually, you will only need to change the 
  91.    "ASCII-EBCDIC" Conversion Table to fit with your local IBM system.

  93.   You will also need to select a Font Size of 9, or 7 Font, when using asc3270 on a   
  94.   on a 9'' screen or on a PowerBook.

  96. 3) The default colors and keyboard mapping provide a convenient way to use your 
  97.    tool but you can change them if you prefer. You must configure your own keyboard 
  98.    if you want to map these keys to your Macintosh keyboard. Refer to the Help 
  99.    dialog for more information.
